ExpandIT BAS is designed to facilitate development and modification of mobile ERP solutions. It allows systems integrators to focus on the functionality required by end-customers because ExpandIT BAS handles the technical infrastructure or 'plumbing'. Functionality is created either modifying or extending the existing open base applications, or by creating new forms and business logic.

Client Management registers new devices, manages passwords, blocks further synchronization if a mobile computer should be lost, and provides systems information of transactions from individual clients. The Client Management runtime ensures that the mobile solution is independent of device specific parameters such as form factor and processor type.

Communication Management ensures that the individual client is connected to the system as short time as possible. Even though data-commit ensures that no data is lost, it is still convenient that business transactions are communicated to the administrative systems in as few attempts as possible. The communication protocols are the same as when connecting to the Internet, http, and https.

ExpandIT Mobile ERP uses the Light Weight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) - an open network protocol standard designed to provide access to distributed directories. LDAP provides a mechanism for querying and modifying information that resides in a directory information tree (DIT). Consequently, any and all security policies on the existing network are automatically respected by the ExpandIT BAS server. Further, the mobile devices are in contact with ExpandIT BAS only, and the information exchange is in predefined formats.

Integration Management ensures quality integration to even highly modified systems. Data is extracted from as many different backend systems as needed and the mobile professionals use this data to create business transactions. The business transactions enter the existing business processes defined in the backend systems via XML, API’s, and/or backend specific connectors.
